Friends don't let friends....(click for phots)

I'm glad my college friends were either too kind or too lazy to bring a camera to parties. I'm sure I could have been a victim of this sort.

Thank you friends for taking pity on me. or Perhaps they never messed with me because I had a remarkable ability to wake up after a breif "cat nap" and start the party all over!

There are some great pictures there.

The One Campaign

Click the link to Sign the ONE declaration...

“WE BELIEVE that in the best American tradition of helping others help themselves, now is the time to join with other countries in a historic pact for compassion and justice to help the poorest people of the world overcome AIDS and extreme poverty. WE RECOGNIZE that a pact including such measures as fair trade, debt relief, fighting corruption and directing additional resources for basic needs – education, health, clean water, food, and care for orphans – would transform the futures and hopes of an entire generation in the poorest countries, at a cost equal to just one percent more of the US budget. WE COMMIT ourselves - one person, one voice, one vote at a time - to make a better, safer world for all.”

Remembering a friend, appreciating the now by Tom Stienstra
Sunday, May 15, 2005

The early rains of May bring out the brilliant white blooms of the dogwood trees, the arrival of spring in the mountains, a time for adventures and the memories of friends loved and lost.

Near a downed log in deep forest, far from any trail, a dogwood tree blooms every year this week. It grows over the grave site of my old dog, Rebel, who rambled and roamed with me for 17 years, and blooms each year on the day that I buried him.

In nature, that dogwood represents spring's rebirth of the land. For me, it also symbolizes the crossing over of my old dog's spirit to the other side, to live again.

Every day for 17 years, Rebel slept on my feet as I wrote, so when I finished a story and got up to go, he'd wake, ready for the next trip. Then one spring morning, while curled up beneath me, he had a devastating stroke. An hour later, I held his head in my hands and he gave me a lick on a cheek, and as I held him, he died. It felt like my heart was dying with him.

But a moment later, I sensed something rise from his body, a distinct but amorphous presence, and then hover over him for a few seconds, then drift off and vanish. Now some 10 years later, I believe what I felt was his spirit leaving his physical shell and crossing over. In his death, I felt divine force.

Fetal Attractions

From this website you can "Get your 'Culture of Life' accessories. All fetal models come ready and waiting for you to imprint with your fantasies."

I don't have any fetal fantasies to imprint. I don't know why anyone would want these. What would you do with them? Help! Scary

Here is one choice description: Unborn Baby Ornament - US Troop Model

Protect our troops - from the womb to the war. What if the fetus you were going to abort would grow up to be a soldier bringing democracy to a godless dictatorship?

I'll be in North Carolina for the next few days where it will be close to 80 with showers & thunderstorms. Ugh... what to wear.

ON THIS DAY (well yesterday, May 8)

I was too busy yesterday to post. It was my birthday! Exciting events of yesterday, my 34th, at 3:45am I woke up in the midst of a 3.4 earthquake centered in my hometown. 34 3:45, 3.4... Oooh spooky.

We were to head to my sisters house for an outdoor BBQ party to celebrate both my & Katie's birthdays and Mother's Day. However due to the rain we relocated to our house since we have more indoor space. I spent the morning on a quick clean-up and the house was ready for the family & friends invasion.

Jane worked her magic with tri-tips on the q. Katie & I exchanged pink teddybears. The family chipped in this awesome REI Adventure: http://www.rei.com/adventures/trips/namer/ca_monokayak_wend.jsp Yahoo!

I'm at work for one day this week. I am off to North Carolina for a conference on "The State Of Health Care". whee. I think I'll have lots of time on this trip to study for my physiology final in 2 weeks.

Harry S. Truman (U.S.) 1884
Don Rickles 1926

Baby Season

Welcome to the world Mason Frederick & John William. Two of our friends now have a new role in life: mom! Yeah! Both were born on Friday 4/29. Two more Tauruses... Tauri?

In sad baby related news we learned this weekend that Jane's 7mo old cousin was diagnosed with leukemia. Fortunately she's responding well to the first round of chemo. Keep Delaney in your prayers.

Now the remaining dozen pregnant friends need to give birth and let us meet the little buggers.
