Neighborhood Hangouts

If you are in Oakland and looking for a place to grab a bite & a drink these are my two favorite local hangouts.

Cato's Ale House: You can even take the kids to this one -- parents can drink one of their monthly feature brews while the small ones eat burgers and play checkers. The selection of 22 brews is sure to please the most discriminating lager-lover. One piece of advice: If you must order the catatoes -- those large, hard-to-swallow potato wedges -- make sure you have a pint of Guinness to help wash them down. 3891 Piedmont Avenue, (510) 655-3349. (website)
blogger note: on Tuesday nights they have "Pint Night" where you get to keep the souvenier pint glass of the brewery for the specialty beer of the night. Stock your shelves!

Kerry House: A true dive featuring dark interior, a gloomy pool table and a smoking room upstairs. 4092 Piedmont Avenue, (510) 652-4032.
blogger note: A true Irish bar with attached Indian Restraunt. If you hanker tandoori & a pint this is the place to go & relax.

I hope to run into you!
